Barcode Software:

What is barcode software? It is the application or program, which has been loaded
into a computer, which permits that computer to decode the information located on
a barcode.

It takes more than barcode software to read a barcode. Before the software can
read the barcode, data has to be entered first. This requires a human component.

I use to work for a blood bank, where we used bar codes to track units of blood.
When the barcode is first scanned, the computer requested information that needed
to be entered into the computer. This information was vital to that particular
unit of blood to ensure the safety, purity, and potency of that unit of blood.
This requested data was entered, then associated to that number.

Depending on the software, the data for a barcode may be entered with use of a
spreadsheet or form based screen. With this program, each field of the form contains
different portions of information, which must go with the barcode number. After all the pertinent information has been entered into the computer, anyone needing information on that product can simply scan the barcode and the information will be displayed.
